Having grown up in Austin and knowing how some things have changed while others just keep getting better, Alex feels a firm commitment to preserving the city’s environment and improving its quality of life. After traveling and seeing the good and not-so-good in many other cities around the world, this dual vision of conservation and smart planning drove Alex to focus his real estate career on Green Housing in Austin. He received his Eco-Broker designation in 2008 and was quite excited to find and join a brokerage totally committed to the same pro-Austin-environment vision.

Alex came to real estate after a long career as a litigator, having graduated with a BA in political science from Reed College and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law in ‘95. At UT he was the President of the Environmental Law Society as well as Director of the National Lawyers Guild, and has since tried to keep his commitment to the environment and social justice in the forefront of his daily life and professional practice.

Alex was one of the first Realtors to join “1% for the Planet”, an international organization dedicated to environmental philanthropy that requires all member companies to donate at least 1% of their gross yearly income to pro-environmental causes. Each year, much more than 1% of his real estate earnings goes towards saving animals and beautiful natural areas around the world.

Loves: Running, swimming, and camping with his family; international travel; writing; the Alamo Draft House.

Little-Known-Fact: While on a camping trip, Ann Richards once pulled prickly-pear needles out of Alex’s rear-end (he was a little younger then). Ms. Richards later went on to become Governor of Texas and vetoed a bill attacking Austin’s environmental regulations, basing her veto in part on a brief Alex wrote while working for Texas Rural Legal Aid.
